EnDev staff attending survey presentation 

RREA presented the findings of a consumer and retail survey on solar lamps conducted by ADEAS. Findings revealed that the biggest buyer group were university students and married people. The biggest issues that came up were the quality and the price.

26.10.2018, Monrovia – The Department of Energy (DoE) of the Ministry of Mines and Energy hosted the 5th Integrated Forum for Renewable Energy in Liberia (IFREL) workshop.

On October 19, 2017 from 10am to 3pm the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) of America presented a Draft Mini-grid Code for Liberia to various energy stakeholders. The Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) facilitated the presentation in Monrovia.

NECRA, supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), build the capacity of RREA. In this process it has developed a Draft Mini-grid Code for Liberia. 

The document establishes technical, safety, quality of services and performance standards, etc., that will be required of applicants for electricity licenses for rural electrification. The document will be referred to the Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) for their endorsement, as soon as LERC will be established.

Representatives of various stakeholders such as companies, donors, government agencies involved with rural electrification received the draft code, listened to the presentation and engaged with critical questions and suggestions. Topics discussed included Licensing for mini-grids, technical framework of planning and design, Mini-grid operations and interconnection as well as metering requirements and safety
