EnDev is promoting Liberia’s goal to increase electrification. EnDev’s focus is on a cost effective solar transformation generating income, growth and jobs for urban and rural areas.

Since 2015 Endev Liberia adapted its strategy to Ebola and post Ebola recovery and supplied 59 clinics with solar fridges and more than 100 hospitals and health centres with light and other energies.

Today, the project supports Liberia in its recovering efforts by installing solar systems in more than 100 schools and other institutions. The project is also active in Sierra Leone and Guinea and increasingly engages in the field of larger installations and mini-grids.

Throughout its work, GIZ/EnDev enables women and men - from craftsmen to engineers - to be trained practically and theoretically, to learn and participate in the renewable energy sector.

Maintenance and training

Maintenance of existing systems and the installations in clinics and schools is ongoing. During each installation the EnDev team is training local staff to maintain the solar system.

In Sierra Leone and Guinea an in-depth training is provided to electricians enabling them to continue solar installations in their country.

In case of bigger problems the GIZ/EnDev repair hotline (+231 888 301 778) can be called. Installations are thus mostly working and running smoothly.

Mini-grids and larger installations

EnDev is increasingly engaging in the installation and management of DC and AC mini-grids.

In the field of mini-grids EnDev Liberia cooperates with Plan International Liberia on a Plan project to install five mini grids in five different villages in Lofa county.

EnDev supports and advises Plan International on management models, technical material, installation activities, and monitoring and maintenance issues. Further, EnDev gives technical guidance on an improved cook stove project included in the larger mini-gird project.
