In Totota, Bong county, the Liberian owned Liberia Engineering and Geo Technology Company has started operating a PV 25 KW mini solar plant that provides electricity to about 40 households and businesses. It is backed up by a diesel generator that charges the battery if the sunshine has not been strong enough.
On October 12, 2016, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf commissioned the project and recommended opening more, similar power plants in Liberia.
