The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) with their joint Project Facility invite governmental, semi-governmental, private or non-governmental entities to apply with replicable, scalable and potentially transformative renewable energy projects in developing countries, including Liberia. Applications will be accepted until February 15, 2018.
The current funding round of US$50 million in concessional loans marks the sixth of seven annual cycles over which ADFD committed USD 350 million in concessional loans to renewable energy projects recommended by IRENA. In the first four cycles, the Facility allocated US$189 million to 19 renewable energy ventures, covering up to 50 per cent of the project costs. Together the supporte projects brought more than 100 megawatts of renewable energy capacity and improved the livelihoods of over a million people through providing better access to energy in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Small Island Developing States.
Eligible projects should deploy renewable energies such as bioenergy, geothermal energy, hydropower, ocean energy, solar energy, and/or wind energy. They can use all kinds of systems, including hybrid, off-grid, mini-grid and on-grid including backup storage. A feasibility study must have been made, but prior to tendering, procurement and execution at point of selection. The projects must have the support of, and must be prioritised by the government of the country where they will be implemented.
IRENA provides more information and information how to apply.
