The Energising Development Program (EnDev) provides solar lights for the purpose of evening adult literacy classes in Nimba County.

Eighteen communities in the Buu – Yao Administrative District are benefiting from the solar-powered lights.

The literacy classes are an opportunity to take the first leap in the education of beneficiaries whose education was interrupted by the civil war.

The classes help them to learn to read and write and some of the students will have the possibility to return to formal school and even complete elementary or high school grade.

There has been a demand for adult literacy classes since many years but the government has not sufficiently dealt with the problem. To achieve 100% adult literacy in Nimba County there is still a long way to go. But Nimbaians are positive.
