On 30 October 2019, GIZ/EnDev awarded certificates and prizes to five retailers for the sales of renewable energy products (Pico PV solar lamps and improved cook stove), during the sale outreach in Gbarnga, Bong county and Ganta, Nimba County in December 2018. Mercy Corps, the Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) and other renewable energy actors had also been involved in the sales outreach and were also present at the ceremony.
Retailers that were rewarded are: Sun Star Green Energy as the first highest sale company, SJEDI Green Energy as the second highest sale, Bill Johnson Business Center as the third highest sale, Jerrut Enterprise as the fourth highest sale and Universal Empowerment Mission as the fifth highest sale company.
Sun Star Green Energy the first highest sale company, was represented by Mr. Haynes at the ceremony. Mr. Haynes said he appreciated GIZ/EnDev and others implementing partners for their efforts in supporting retailers around Liberia. He said that this will promote renewable energy and reduce the deforestation in the country and promised to work with other retailers.
Mr. Royston Gbelia CEO of SJEDI Green Energy and president of the LEAP Network told the other participants that he will ensure that under his regime, he will make sure that the LEAP network will promote the happening of renewable energy around the country and want to encourage other local retailers to work hard that the network stand for its goal.
During the certification and award ceremony, Mr. Daniel Partee M&E officer of GIZ/EnDev, said that the sales competition was organized to encourage retailers to sell more solar lamp and other renewable energy products in Liberia.
Also present on the occasion was the Program Director of Mercy Corps, Mr. Deb, who also commended EnDev for organizing such a competition. Mr. Deb said that although Mercy Corps Light Up Liberia Project has closed, but the organization will still be working in the renewable energy sector and promised that Mercy Corps will work with other partners to promote the sector.
The representative from RREA Mr. Abraham Bility commended GIZ/EnDev for the award and encouraged retailers to be serious with the sales of renewable energy products, as RREA is approach to support retailers in the country
