On December 15, 2016, the first turbine of the Mt. Coffee Hydropower Plant was officially commissioned by the President of the Republic of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

The opening signified a milestone for the advance of the project. After the overall completion, set for August 2017, a total of four hydropower turbines will generate clean energy for Liberia.

To realize the full potential of the Hydropower Plant, with a capacity of 88 MW, the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) will increase distribution lines and customer connections in Monrovia and its surroundings. Not only additional residential customers will be connected, but also large commercial and industrial users will benefit from the project.

It is anticipated that the tariff will be reduced significantly.
